We predicted this - American Idol judging scandal puts girls at bottom of “votes”

We told you on this blog last week - there is a growing scandal over the biased American Idol judges and their non-stop anti-girl rants and disrespect. Even MTV have written about this season’s terrible judging and biased production.

So as we explained in last week’s post, it was inevitable that the show would put the girls at the bottom of the so-called “votes” this week - see the reasons here: http://girlsrock.today.com/2009/04/16/american-idol-judging-scandal-exposed-girls-will-suffer-next-week/

In other words, get most of the judges to disrespect the girls week after week and their confidence will suffer. Attack the girls, week after week, on clothes choice and song choice and arrangement choice, and they will suffer.

None of the non-stop attacks have been about vocal ability or talent. Just sniping about hair or “personality”. If anyone needs a personality transplant it’s Simon Cowell.

But that is not all. The judges constantly praise weak guys who can’t sing, who even the public dislike. Randy said way back at the start that he wanted a boy to win. American Idol this year is a sham - but also a tragedy.

Disco fever … or Disco failure - American Idol’s final 7

As it happens, we usually enjoy Disco week on American Idol, from the good and the bad and all the way to the ugly. This year there was quite a bit of ugly. Fortunately Allison and Adam were on hand to provide great performances.

Lil Rounds started the show and it was not good. Her voice wavers all over the place when she’s not shouting, and when she’s shouting the ears hurt. Lil cannot sing. Full stop. At least Randy was honest to say that Lil lacks vocal control.

Kris Allen went all Carole King and club-jazz with an interesting take on She Worked Hard For The Money, which may just appeal to the public due to its unusual treatment. It certainly appealed to the audience and to the judges. Randy said one main purpose of the show is to find undiscovered talent, and this year may do that.

Allison Iraheta let rip on Donna Summer’s Hot Stuff and the combination of powerful and husky voice, along with a great disco costume, was easily the best disco performance by a mile. As expected, Randy and Kara were critical, and Simon called Allison an underdog. The anti-girl bias is so plain with the language the judges use and the emphasis they put on certain words.

In contrast, Adam Lambert went all stage show on the slow If I Can’t Have You, but with trademark shrieks. He does have great vocal range and control, and a certain success is assured in some way even if Adam does not win Idol.

The other guys were awful, so the anti-girl bias zoomed straight back in - Randy (you can really sing), Kara (good, solid performance), Paula (great performance). Only Simon Cowell was “real” in some cases. See our exclusive American Idol scorecard for a summary.

American Idol judging scandal exposed - girls will suffer next week

The almost non-stop anti-girl bias of Season 8 of American Idol has reached new lows. In a tactic to eliminate the girls next week, Simon Cowell and his puppets used the Judges’ Save to protect the weakest guy. Despite the views of many critics and the public, that Matt is often the worst contestant, by saving him there will be two finalists eliminated next week.

We predict now the judges will heap rubbish on the girls, or play schoolyard games rather than give the girls the attention and respect they deserve. So next week’s show will be a sham.

There is also growing concern over the alleged votes. Despite falling viewing numbers compared to last year, Ryan Seacrest keeps announcing record numbers of votes being recorded. Why millions less viewers would pay to make millions more votes is very hard to explain. Especially in these days of the credit crunch.

As commentators like MTV have also highlighted the anti-girl bias, it could be sad the way the show rolls out next week.

The three A’s sound the best on American Idol

“This is Quentin Tarantino … and this is American Idol!” Music has been central to the films of Tarantino and he is a great fan of American Idol. So Songs of the Cinema proved a good theme, with Quentin offering the mentor comments. For us, the three A’s deserved the A Stars.

Allison Iraheta passion and powerAllison Iraheta (photo 1) started the show, singing Aerosmith’s I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing and even Paula and Simon were able to avoid their anti-girl rants and offer some praise. With a husky voice, bags of passion and a real star quality, Allison continues to inspire and impress.

Anoop Desai chose to sing the love theme to Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Everything I Do by Bryan Adams, and gave without doubt his best performance so far in the series.

Adam Lambert rolled with a classic Steppenwolf number Born to be Wild and really impressed the audience. Although Simon compared it to The Rocky Horror Picture Show in a negative way, many could see it as a plus. Adam’s voice was straining in parts, but soaring in others. He still seems like a serious contender for the final.

Lil Rounds failed completely to listen to Quentin and fell back on her usual fault of shouting the big parts of the song, which on Bette Midler’s The Rose was totally not good. Her voice wavered all over the place as well, flat in parts, and really disappointing. Which made it easy for Simon to let rip with his anti-girl campaign.

Ashley Tisdale follows Miley Cyrus into Kelly Clarkson territory

Looking very tanned and brunette, High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale has a new single out to start the promotion for her next album. With a rock sound similar to Miley Cyrus, it seems the new teen music stars are following Kelly Clarkson rather than Taylor Swift.

Ashley Tisdale of High Scool MusicalThe premiere of Tisdale’s new song It’s Alright, It’s Ok was on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show this week, and she talked about the themes of break up and revenge. The 23-year-old explained the song feels “really empowering, and it’s like an independent anthem song, which is great because it’s something I’m listening to right now.”

Ashley Tisdale (photo) also mentioned her second album Guilty Pleasure comes out on June 16th, followed shortly after with her upcoming movie called They Came From Upstairs which is due July 31st.

The album comes from personal experience and she said it is a reflection of where she is in her life. “I’m growing up, but I feel like my fans are growing with me,” Tisdale explained.

The magic of Allison Iraheta and Adam Lambert saves American Idol

Allison Iraheta and Adam Lambert on American IdolFirst, the good news - Allison is safe. Second, the good news - Scott is gone. Third, the good news - Kylie is on American Idol. Okay, not quite on the third.

The group song of the American Idol final 8 was a Kylie song - Can’t Get You Out Of My Head - and it was awful. Much as we love that single, the voices of most Idols this year can’t hold a tune with that delicacy. Only Allison Iraheta (photo 1) and Adam get good marks.

Fourth, the good news - Britney is on the show. Okay, not quite. But the Ford spot with the Idols as magicians and performing to Britney’s Circus was great. Again, Allison and Adam (photo 2) really shone.

American Idol Ford advertFifth, the good news - our exclusive scorecard was on the money. Just one point separated the bottom few and our lowest ranked contestant went home. With another guy gone, the odds are in better shape for our favourite girl - the wonderful Allison Iraheta - girls rock !!

Wow !! - the passion and power of awesome Allison Iraheta

Songs from the year the contestants were born can be a real danger ride for the hopefuls on American Idol, and 2009 was no different.

This is a brief report of the performances as Today.com has asked me to shorten the posts and reduce the number of photos.

Allison Iraheta passion and powerDanny Gokey was born in 1980 and the oldest contestant. He chose Stand By Me, a slow song that reveals the weaknesses in his voice. Simon Cowell is so uninterested now that he spends his time putting Paula Abdul down rather than making use of his time to talk about the music.

Youngster Allison Iraheta (born 1992) sang Bonnie Raitt’s I Can’t Make You Love Me - a beautiful song, sung beautifully with power, passion and skill. Another awesome Allison performance - and at last Randy Jackson was allowed to offer some praise.

Allison Irahete (photo) could record an album tomorrow and sell millions - just like Kelly Clarkson is our prediction. So even though the judges will vote Allison off, she will sell more records than whoever the winning boy turns out to be.

Lil Rounds (1984) sang Tina Turner’s What’s Love Got To Do With It and, as usual, hasn’t got the big voice to do much more than sound like a pretend diva - shouty karaoke.

Yet more anti-girl bias on American Idol - Megan Joy is out

With 36 million votes and chart-topping Lady Gaga on the final 9 elimination show of American Idol it could have been an interesting episode - except for the biased judges. Kara DioGuardi has now become like a wind-up toy, being controlled by Simon Cowell. A great shame.

This is a brief report of the show as Today.com has asked me to reduce the length of posts and minimise the photos.

American Idol Ford advertThe latest American Idol Ford advert (photo 1) was great, with the rapper Idols “mixed up” with some clever and catchy camera work.

The bottom three selection was the usual not-really-a-surprise. The anti-girl show put Allison Iraheta (photo 2) alongside Megan Joy.

Allison Iraheta successBoth girls were not surprised and Megan said she did not care what Simon said anymore. At the auditions Simon said Megan was great and one he would remember - but now his anti-girl hang-up has destroyed that dream.

American Idol this year is so rigged. The body language of the contestants and the judges shows this is no longer a singing contest.

Madonna adds more Fashion to her CV

Carrie Underwood, Madonna, Britney SpearsMadonna is well known for re-inventing herself, both in musical style and appearance. Following her creation of a range for Swedish high-street chain H&M  in 2007, the Material Girl is working on different materials, designed for high-end fashion with French fashion designer and entrepreneur Audigier.

The M by Madonna range was a huge hit with H&M shoppers, selling out as soon as it hit shelves, despite some pieces costing over £100 a pop. The new collection for Christian Audigier is thought to include tattoo-inspired T-shirts and diamante-encrusted T-shirts.

As well as Madonna, Audigier includes Michael Jackson and Britney Spears among his close friends, who both attended his extravagant birthday party in 2008.

Music star girls and fashion also go together regularly, especially with so many red carpet events and the need to look as attractive as possible. As you can see from Carrie Underwood (photo, right), high fashion and awards events are frequent bedfellows.

Megan Joy not troubled by unfair American Idol season

In an impressive departure performance, Megan Joy Corkrey showed she is above the petty games and lies that have rocked American Idol this year. Megan even stood up to Simon Cowell’s anti-girl bias and said she did not care that he didn’t like her.

Megan Joy Corkrey and American IdolSimon’s bias against the girls this year has been so extreme that it is now horrible to watch. For example, drawing on Paula Abdul’s face when the two judges should have been watching and listening to Allison Iraheta. Simon’s disrespect for the girl performers and the female judges is funny in one way - if you wanted to watch 10-year-olds in a playground.

Fortunately, both Megan Joy (photo shows the happy Megan) and Allison have both shown they are talented singers and performers, and can dismiss the rigged comments and editing of the show that is trying to promote the guys.

As we know from previous years, the girls will outsell the boys two-to-one when the real buying public has the chance to show their support.
