The Apple Macintosh has always been the Lotus to the Ford of Microsoft. The Mac is sleek, focussed, powerful and fast. It will get the same job done in half or even a third of the time. Part of the reason is it’s much better operating system - optimised for design, graphics, images and video.
Just as the iPod has become even sleeker and clever, so also is the advertising used by Apple. With a brand that is all about quality, purpose, clarity and colour, along comes Apple’s design for Valentines Day. Their computers revolutionised the industry, blew apart the entrnenched greys and off-blues of the mainstream, suggesting that computers were not only great tools but could also look great and be fun to use - like a Lotus.
