American Idol shock - shouting not singing is winning

The two contestants who shouted the most in the third batch of 12 were the winners. Season 8 of American Idol is in danger of becoming very lopsided. In every semi-final round the best singers have been the girls. Yet the public is voting for the boys - allegedly.

Whether it was actual voting or not, there was no real surprise that Lil Rounds and Scott MacIntyre were announced as ‘winners’. They shouted their songs and the judges shouted their supposed popularity. We don’t believe it.

Then the editors and producers of the show achieved their biased goal of two boys to every girl when it was announced that Jorge Nuñez would join Lil and Scott. Although Jorge was the best guy singer of the night, no way was he the best singer overall.

In other news, the judges announced their Wild Card selections:

  • Jasmine Murray, 16
    Jesse Langseth, 25
    Megan Joy Corkrey, 22
    Tatiana Del Torro, 24
  • Anoop Desai, 21
    Matt Giraud, 23
    Ricky Braddy, 26
    Von Smith, 22

In every case they have chosen weak boys over stonger girls from every heat. It is a laugh to suggest Anoop or Ricky were better than Ann Marie Boskovich. And Tatiana has nowhere near the voice of Ann Marie.

It is also a joke to suggest Matt Giraud was better than Mishavonna Henson. And finally, to choose Von over Felicia Barton or Kristen McNamara is a complete open-and-shut case of bias - all hiden behind secrecy.

Every year it’s the same. The talent shows hide the votes. Therefore we do not know if a favourite missed by a fraction or by a mile. Or, indeed, if the announced winners have anything to do with actual votes. When 25 million people pay money to vote, surely there should be open and honest reporting of those votes.
