The awards are in and the results again prove the story of 2008 (and what we can expect for 2009) - that Girls Rock !!

Please Read The Letter by Alison Krauss & Robert PlantLet’s start with Record of the Year and suggest some meaning behind the winning song: Please Read The Letter by Alison Krauss & Robert Plant.

First, Krauss has won 26 Grammy Awards - more than any other female artist - and has a huge catalog of albums, collaborations and soundtracks to her name. Her crossover success from country-bluegrass has also been helpedby the work with Plant. If you wonder about the Led Zep ‘power’ vocalist teaming up with country fiddler, just listen to their The Battle Of Evermore to hear how it all works.

But the important thing is Krauss stole the award from limp Coldplay - and all the other nominees were women.

Alison Krauss & Robert Plant album Raising SandThe duo also took the Album of the Year award with Raising Sand, again beating Coldplay but also the equally limp metrosexual boys Lil Wayne and Ne-Yo.

And with Rich Woman the duo took the Best Pop Collaboration award, another category dominated by the girls - Alicia Keys, Madonna, Rihanna and Jordin Sparks.

Not a surprise, then, when Killing the Blues took the Best Country Collaboration award for the duo.

Other girls bashing the boys in the Grammy Awards lists included:

  • Best R&B Album - Jennifer Hudson by Jennifer Hudson
  • Best Contemporary R&B Album - Growing Pains by Mary J. Blige
  • Best Rap Collaboration - American Boy by Estelle
